MF30 Meter SL.pngLitre Meter has shipped 65 customised VFF positive displacement flowmeters with spares to Azerbaijan for use in chemical injection applications in the former soviet socialist republic. It is one of the company?s largest-ever orders and was won because meters using competing Coriolis technology could not meet the demanding specification.
The VFF MF30 rotary piston flow meters are to be used to measure the flow of methanol at high pressure (430bar) in subsea gas exploration on fields in the Caspian Sea.
Antifreeze fluids like methanol are used as thermodynamic inhibitors, which lower the freezing point of gas hydrate. They are injected at high pressure into pipelines where there is a risk of hydrates (dew) forming then freezing at low temperature. 
Under conditions of low temperature and high pressure gas hydrates can solidify as crystals which may block the pipeline. This can result in a shutdown and the risk of explosion or unintended release of hydrocarbons into the environment. 
Pipes blocked by freezing hydrates may have to be uplifted to remove the blockage, causing costly loss of production. Litre Meter meters assist in maintaining flow assurance and reducing production costs.
Litre Meter VFF positive displacement flowmeters measure the correct amount of methanol needed to prevent hydrate formation. Chemicals are expensive which means that their use needs to be carefully monitored.
The VFF MF30 flowmeter is suitable for measuring liquids at pressure ratings up to 4,000 bar (60,000 psi) and flow rates from 0-90 l/hr. It covers a viscosity range between 0.8 and 2,000 centistokes (cSt). 
These meters are of intrinsically safe design and manufactured to operate reliably at temperatures ranging from -40 to 150C. They are constructed in 316 stainless steel with Swagelok end fittings and Kalrez seals.
Litre Meter CEO Charles Wemyss said: ?This is our second largest ever order by value and is a very significant contract for Litre Meter. The order was originally for Coriolis meters but these could not deal with the pressures required. We were able to use our experience to suggest alternatives.
