CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), default qualityCustom flow meter manufacturer and distributor Litre Meter has supplied a Sierra FastFlo? 620S air flow sensor to a Formula 1 racing team for use in engine testing.

Formula 1 is highly competitive and teams rigourously test the performance of their cars in order to gain an advantage over their rivals during the course of the season. One way to increase the car?s performance is to optimise its air intake.

The air drawn into the engine air manifold via the airbox above the driver?s head is carefully monitored in order to maximise the combustion of the fuel in the engine and therefore the power delivered through the drive chain. This needs to be measured accurately so that performance can be maintained at consistently high levels.

Litre Meter has supplied a FastFlo? 620S instrument designed to measure the flow of gases at pressures of up to 8 bar. The meters are highly stable and deliver a measurement accuracy of +/- 1 per cent full scale and a repeatability of +/- 0.2 per cent of full scale and, most importantly, a 200 millisecond response time to changes in flow rate.

FastFlo features a versatile microprocessor-based transmitter which integrates the functions of flow-range adjustment, meter validation and diagnostics in a probe-mounted NEMA 4X (IP65) housing. Mass flow rate and totalised flow, as well as other configuration variables, can be displayed on the meter?s optional 2 x 12 backlit LCD panel.

The meter also provides an optical/galvanic isolated 4-20 mA output and two alarm outputs. The programmable transmitter is easily configured via RS-232 and Sierra?s Smart Interface? Windows-based software or three push buttons in the device itself. Modbus RTU is also supported. The Model 620S is suitable for pipes or ducts from 2-inches up to 48-inches (DN50 to DN1200).

The flow meter can measure most non-corrosive gases commonly used in biotech, pharmaceutical, analytical and research applications ? others gases can be substituted to customise the meter for specific applications. This allows the instrument to be used for multiple applications, creating great flexibility as well as helping to reduce spares inventory.

The probe of Sierra FastFlo? 620S air flow sensor is made in 316 stainless steel with a 304 stainless steel glass epoxy coated sensor. The instrument is enclosed in NEMA 4X (IP65) powder-coated cast aluminium.

Litre Meter, a leading manufacturer and supplier of custom flow meters, is the UK distributor for the Sierra Instruments range of flow meters. As with Litre Meter?s own range of custom flow meters, Sierra Instruments? range is designed to operate in some of the harshest conditions on the planet.
